How To Start Beer Brewing For Beginners

By Michelle Howe

If you enjoy taking beer you would probably be interested in knowing how to make it at home. Beer brewing for beginners is not as hard as you may think. All you require is to purchase the right kit and learn the steps that you should follow. You need to know the procedure on how to make this drink at home.

The first thing you need to do is to get a malt extract and soak it. If you soak cans that have malt extract for about 20 minutes in hot water the extract will become soft and it will be easy to pour it out. You need to boil water and mix it with malt extract. Ensure that the water boils completely and stir well till all the malt extract dissolves. The mixture you get is referred to as wort.

The wort should be boiled for about half an hour. Keep stirring every once in a while. After about 5 to 10 minutes while the wort is boiling, you should add hop pellets in the mixture. The next process you need to perform is sanitizing your fermentor. It is advisable to use about a gallon of water, an ounce of bleach and a sponge to sanitize the lid as well as the fermentor.

Pour about 3 gallons of fresh cold water into the fermentor and place the lid on it. Next, add the wort in this container. Take care not to pour it on yourself. The next procedure after this is to let the wort cool down to room temperature.

The next step is to hydrate the yeast. There are instructions that accompany the yeast when you buy it and you should follow them. After you are done hydrating it, add it to the wort. You need to get the lid off the fermentor quickly and when you pour the yeast it is advisable not to stir.

The final procedure in the fermentation process is to add fresh water to the fermentor till the halfway mark. Let it remain in a room with no disturbance. It should also be dark and the temperatures should be cool. To know whether the process is on track you will hear bubbling because of carbon monoxide being released. Leave it like this for 14 days.

After the fermentation process is done you now need to bottle the product. It is important to have the bottles and the caps sanitized. For the bottles it is advisable to use water and bleach. You should find a mild solution of bleach for the caps. Alternatively, you can use vodka. Other tools such as the bucket, the bottle filler, the racking cane and the siphon hose need to be sanitized as well.

Boil corn sugar mixed with water and pour it on the bottling bucket which should be on the floor. Siphon beer from the fermentor which should be placed on a counter into the bucket. After it is full, place it on the counter and attach the siphon hose, the cane and the bottle filler. You can now begin to fill each bottle. Ensure that you leave some room at the neck before capping. Before consumption the beer bottles should be left for about two weeks. Beer brewing for beginners should be easy if you follow these steps.
