Marco Island Vacation Guide For Florida Visitors

By Carmella Watts

A Marco Island vacation on Southwest Florida's Gulf Coast comes highly recommended for many good reasons. There's no better place for beach holidays, what with miles of sugary white sand beaches, the sunny weather and plenty of opportunities for recreation and water sports. Not to mention the fact that it is the Gulf Coast's primary gateway into the Everglades. Tourists can also indulge in urban pleasures such as shopping and golf.

The ideal way to come up with an interesting and fun-filled itinerary for this trip is to get a handle on the location and the possible tours and tourist attractions in the vicinity. Marco Island is the name of the city as well as the island, which can be found at the southern end of the Sunshine State's west coast. Lumped together with the Everglades and the adjacent City of Naples, it forms the Paradise Coast.

The most convenient time for people to visit "Paradise" is obviously during the summer holidays. But Tigertail Beach and South Marco Beach can also be pretty crowded during the peak season from January through April. Not to mention the fact that beachfront resorts get sold out well ahead of time, and the nightly rates are also higher.

The summer and spring break rush can be avoided by smart travelers who plan beforehand and keep their travel dates flexible. Visiting this area during the rest of the year works out very nicely, because the weather is just as brilliant and the waters and sand will still be warm and inviting enough. The best part is that the beaches are relatively empty, and lodgings are easily available at lower rates.

Visitors can choose from amongst a variety of activities. Recreational possibilities include fishing charters, snorkeling expeditions and dolphin watching tours. Collier Seminole State Park is an ideal place for camping and nature exploration, in addition to canoeing and fishing. The best possible outdoor experience on the Paradise Coast is an Everglades airboat tour which includes a visit to Totch Island.

Those who seek more adventure can rent a jet ski or powerboat. There are many companies offering to help tourists with parasailing and windsurfing. Some visitors will even take shelling tours since these beaches are renowned for their cache of beautiful sea shells.

The golf courses in this part of the state are excellent even by championship standards, and it would be a shame to waste this chance to tee off at the Island Golf Club. The shops, restaurants and boutiques at Marco Walk are likewise a must-visit for shopaholics. Families with children will find Mackle Community Park an ideal place for picnics and relaxing breaks.

In summary, a Marco Island vacation has a lot more to offer than most other beach destinations within and outside Florida. The Gulf Coast has innumerable beaches with the same white sand, sunny weather, soul-stirring sunsets and invigorating ocean breeze. The thing that sets this particular one apart is that the location offers an irresistible mix of urban facilities and pleasures combined with the serenity of unspoiled nature in the vastness of the Everglades.
