Tips For Making An Ice Cream Sundae Bar

By Carmella Watts

The ice cream sundae bar is one of those pleasures that children enjoy when it is sunny and when the weather is hot. They're great for kids' parties, but when done right can also cater for grownups too. By following certain tips time as well as money can be saved.

One tip that might resonate with parents is the idea of setting them up at the end of the week, when you can relax after a tiring week at work and not worry about going in the next day. Of course, you can hire a company to set up a stand but the money you save by doing it yourself might well be better spent on buying more of the product.

Although you don't always see this at professional stands, it is usually best to scoop the ice cream beforehand if doing the job yourself. Children can be notoriously messy, and, additionally, doing this saves time and makes it easier for your guests to make their own sundaes. No-one wants to have to wait in line while a kid struggles to carve out a ball from a dessert that is frozen solid.

For those wishing to scoop out the ice cream before the event, try and wait until the last moment to do this, say around 60 minutes before the event is due to commence. Scoop the dessert into large bowls and place it straight back in the freezer, taking it out a few minutes before the event starts.

Toppings - especially hot fudge sauce and caramel sauce - are an integral part of ice cream sundaes, so it should be no surprise to learn there is a tip for keeping them warm throughout the day. By heating them in a small slow cooker and stirring every so often you will not only keep them warm, you will ensure the bottom of the cooker does not stick and that no skin forms on the top layer of the sauce.

Kids usually like a little variety, so they'll probably enjoy the experience more if several varieties of ice creams are on offer. These days a large selection is sold in stores so there's no excuse for a skimping on the flavors. The same goes for the topping too, more usually makes for happier kids and adults. Try some adult flavors too, like brandy and chocolate, or vanilla, whipped cream and a tequila.

If you're the type who is always looking to do a little extra for their guests and create a bit of a wow, then doing a little baking could be right up your alley. By making waffles, doughnuts or chocolate chip cookies, you're creating a great base for guests to start off their sundaes. Brownies also work well in this respect. If baking seems a little too much then just buy ready-made from the local store. No-one needs to know.

Making your own ice cream sundae bar might take a little more time than hiring out a firm, but by doing it yourself you'll be in full control of everything that is eaten. By following a few little tips you can also ensure that you don't spend time having to clean up after messy kids.
