The Best Wine Making Kits For Beginners

By Nita McKinney

There is no plausible reason for anyone not to pursue a winemaking hobby at home. There are so many reasons for distilling wine at home. The high cost of the drink could be one of them, or maybe lack of quality or selection in the nearby stores. One basic method of winemaking involves using a kit. This is an affordable and low risk way of going about making the drink of choice. The kits are available in many types, and some of them even throw in a set of instructions. Below is a look at how to choose wine making kits for beginners.

To facilitate the distilling of the drink at home, three different products are required. They are a juice recipe kit, an equipment kit and bottles. When about to get started, choosing equipment kit is the most important step. The ideal equipment kits are inclusive of all the components needed to produce approximately six gallons of the drink using concentrate.

Starter winemaking equipment contains everything a beginner may need to distil at home, maybe with the exception of bottles and a juice kit. Winemaking is definitely easier than brewing beer. A person does not need to boil the ingredients, and the results are always consistent when concentrate kits are used. However, the process does require more patience when compared to beer brewing. A wait of between two and six months is normal.

For the winemaking process to be complete and successful, a two stage fermentation has to be done. The kits used include a six gallon glass carboy, a 7.5 gallon plastic fermenter that comes with a lid, a stopper for every fermenter and a bottle brush. Additional equipment include an airlock, a wine hydrometer, a plastic plunger corker together with corks, siphoning tube, a racking tube, a shut-off valve, a bottle filler and equipment instructions.

A normal starter kit is available in four corker upgrades of different types. Each equipment piece is similar to the other, except maybe the corker. There is no kit that is easy or hard to make than another one. In simple terms, the more money is invested in purchasing a kit, the better the drink quality made. All the maker has to do is choose their preferred wine style and then get started.

About three dozen standard bottles each of 750ml are needed to store the wine made, which amounts to about six gallons. This is the same as two cases that are made up of half a dozen bottles each, with addition of an extra six bottles. It is not advisable to use shipping glass as its weight makes it expensive.

As soon as a person has finished drinking wines, they will definitely keep the empty bottles safe. Winemakers can then collect enough bottles, clean them out and then utilize them in storing the drinks they distill.

When purchasing wine making kits for beginners, starting with the cheap ones first is advisable. It is recommended that an upcoming winemaker get a simple package that will just be enough to make the first bottles of drinks. They can then upgrade later on.
