How To Build A Drill Chicken Plucker

By Helene Norris

One of the most recent devices that have been invented is the drill chicken plucker. This is because plucking birds can sometimes be very tedious and time consuming as well. Plastic barrel pluckers are always available but are very costly and therefore less affordable to most people.

Its construction requires basic materials that are bought from hardware stores, and the main one being a hand drill. The device makes plucking the feathers much easier and faster after the chicken has been dipped in water that is at boiling point. Its construction is very simple and the following steps should be followed carefully to achieve the best results.

The first step is to be ready with all the requirements. These are: An electric fan, wooden boards which should be two; 2x8 inches and 3/4x3/4 inches. Prior to starting on the work, always remember to wear a protective gear.

You will first need to lay the 2x8 board down and then mount the motor. Make sure there is proper alignment of the end of the carpet that should be holding the motor. Attach them both with 0.5 inch staples. Take the 6x6 plywood and drill into it holes that measure 0.5 inch each. Additionally, four holes for mounting the motor should also be drilled.

Next, the plywood should be attached to the 2x8 piece of wood and then the motor is to be mounted on it. The two plywood pieces should then be attached together with the use of the piece of wood that measures 3/4x3/4 inches. The electrical box is then mounted on the motor and ensuring it is on its opposite side. Then, the switch, cord and motor should be wired together.

Next, prepare and then attach the plucking fingers. Then, drill 15 holes each measuring 23/64 inch, on the surrounding exterior of the PVC cap. The cap is small and hence the holes should be very close to each other.

The holes should be in a specific pattern. In the first row, two holes should be next to each other, while in the next row, there should be one hole at the center. The holes should follow a strict pattern to maintain uniformity. The finger pluckers are then inserted into the holes from inside out.

At the end of the PVC cap, a hole measuring 0.5 inch should be drilled. Ensure it is placed at the middle part so that it can be able to spin. To one of the ends of the fan motor mounting collar, the threaded rod's welding should be done.

Lastly, you should mount the collar to the motor and then use 0.5 inch nuts for fastening the rod's end. The construction of the drill chicken plucker is now complete and the device is absolutely ready for use. You can be guaranteed of a ready bird in just a couple of minutes and time consuming chicken plucking will now be a thing of the past and a long forgotten affair. Plucking chickens will not be time consuming as it was, and you can be certain that it'll be ready in no time.
