- Beans is included on the list of foods that are recommended to be stored for emergency consumption because of its high-protein content and may be a good alternative to provide the body with the protein that it needs in the absence of meat and seafood during disaster strikes.

Things to remember when storing emergency survival foods:

-Always check the labels. Check the expiration date of the product that you are planning to store. You don't want to provide yourself and your family foods that are already expired when emergencies happen. Choose those foods that can be stored for longer periods before they expire.

-Storing foods that you and your family likes to eat is also recommended. Experiencing disaster and calamities does not mean that you have eat foods that you do not like. Storing this kinds of foods ensures that your family will be able to eat during this times.

-Make sure to store water. A normal person can live up to eight days or more without food, but without water a person can stay up only until about 4 days.

-An area free from rodents and other insects is always advisable to be used as a storage place for your survival food supplies. You can also make use of tightly-closed containers in storing your emergency and survival foods supply.

-Being healthy and energetic is very important to make sure that you and your family will survive the calamity or disaster that may hit your area. Thus it is important to remember to store foods that provide energy to the body so that you will be able to do the activities needed to be done during emergency situations.

-Also keep in mind to store not only foods but as well as things that are important and are much needed during emergency situations like emergency light and batteries, first aid kit and medicines, matches and candles.

Being ready is one vital factor in disaster preparedness.
